What ExpenseBiz is
ExpenseBiz is an editorial publication for small businesses choosing finance tools. We cover five categories: accounting software, payroll, business banking, business lending, and expense cards. We pick what we think the buyer should actually use — not what we'd pick if we were the vendor.
The site is for SMEs with five to fifty employees. Owners, ops leads, finance leads. We don't write for enterprise CFOs and we don't write for solo freelancers — both have very different problems than the SME middle.
Why we built it
The SME finance-tools landscape is noisy. Most listicles you find via Google are written by vendors crowning themselves number one, by agencies pushing whoever pays them most, or by sites that haven't updated their picks since 2023. A small business owner researching a finance tool spends real time on this — and most of what they read is structurally biased.
ExpenseBiz is the editorial version of that research. We pick the tools we'd recommend to a friend running a 15-person agency or a 30-person e-commerce shop, and we say so directly.
What we don't do
- No sponsored content. Vendors don't pay us to feature them. Affiliate links pay us a commission when a buyer signs up, but the affiliate deal never determines the ranking.
- No pay-to-play rankings. Position one in any of our lists is the tool we'd genuinely use ourselves.
- No reviews of products we haven't used or read deeply about. If we mention a tool we haven't touched, we say so.
How we make money
When a buyer clicks an affiliate link and signs up, the vendor pays us a commission. The buyer pays nothing extra — the commission comes out of the vendor's own customer-acquisition budget. This is the same model independent publications like NerdWallet and Forbes Advisor use; we just don't pretend otherwise.
